Land of smiles - Day 1

It was my first time visiting Bangkok. After half a year of being stressed out, I am so thankful for the a 5 day escape from Singapore (and school work).

Departing from Changi Terminal 1

Scenery from the plane window

Yeah, landed!

First thing after we got our luggage was to get a local sim card. It comes with unlimited data for 7 days (ya, we cannot live without wifi =/). Then we took cab to hotel. The traffic jam was mad in Bangkok. I kept asking how long more to reach the hotel. The cab uncle collects currencies and displayed them on the ceiling of the cab. We found out there was no singapore dollars and gave him a $2 note. He was so happy that he kept looking at it at traffic lights. It feels good to brighten someone's day. =P

We stayed at Centrana Watergate Pavilion Hotel located near Chit Lom BTS station. It is a new hotel with contemporary design. The entire room is in white (which i forgot to take a photo).

Once checked in, we made our way to Chatuchak market. We were a bit lost on the way from the hotel to BTS station. Fortunately we met a Taiwanese girl, who was travelling alone. So we went to Mo Chit together.

The crowds at Mo Chit station

It is a huge market with all different kinds of stalls. We just randomly walked around, mainly looked at all the pet stalls.  Besides cute puppies, kittens and bunnies at very very cheap price, there are also some exotic pets.

Shocked kitty

A stall selling puppies, I think for about S$10 only?

A stall selling handicraft stuff

What I enjoyed most is probably eating all the street snacks in the market, especially coconut icecream and mango sticky rice!

Cute uncle selling mango sticky rice
After showing him this photo i took, he insisted to take photo with me. Haha

Yummy! I am missing it right now

Some crispy waffle with hot dog inside

Roadside stall selling some big bowl of thai noodle with lots of bowls of ingredients to add yourself

Chicken rice, the monkey felt that the chicken is a bit hard

Tom yum for me!

Coconut icecream is da bomb!

After all the walking, we were too tired and headed back to hotel for a nap. Woke up close to 11pm, hotel receptionist recommended us some eateries about 5 minute walking distance from the hotel. We just walked into a chicken rice store with all waitress in hot pink. Coincidentally, later found out that is the famous pink shirt chicken rice.

Itadakimasu!

Plain looking soup, but taste heavenly

Green mango salad

Rather tasty meal

Spotted a super cute dog there

Once the dog saw us taking photo of it, it started posing for us (even the owner was laughing at it)
